Classroom instruction in Capstone focuses on elements of product development that should help on both your Capstone project and future product development projects during your career.

For the first six days of Fall semester, we have an intensive introduction of product development scheduled from 8-9:50 daily. Details of this schedule are found in the Fall Semester Student At-A-Glance for students and Fall Semester Coach At-A-Glance for coaches. These first six days are designed to get you up to speed on your project quickly and efficiently, and to provide an overview of the product development process.

At the end of this rapid introduction, you'll be working towards the Opportunity Development Review.

Simultaneously, we'll begin periodic pod instructional sessions (described below) on topics related to successfully completing your design and preparing to become a successful practicing engineer. The weeks and topics for pod instruction are listed in Learning Suite and will appear on your Capstone Dashboard. They are also listed in the Fall and Winter At-A-Glance schedules.

An instructional pod consists of several Capstone teams, grouped together because their projects are anticipated to use similar technologies for solutions. By attending lectures in pods, students get better small-group instruction and interaction with one another, the coaches, and their instructor. You will receive your pod assignment the second day of class.

Each pod instruction session will have a packet due as an exam on Learning Suite. Each packet will include individual work as well as a summary of team discussion. The team discussion will be summarized in a Box document and uploaded by each team member as part of their packet exam. The quality of the team discussion will be evaluated by Capstone staff.
